Students at ERSS recently had the opportunity to engage with European and local politics during a visit from Kathleen Funchion MEP and Cllr. David Dunne.

Kathleen Funchion, Member of the European Parliament, spoke to our TY EPAS students and 3rd years about her role as an MEP, outlining her journey into politics and sharing her vision for the future of Europe. She emphasised the importance of young people becoming actively engaged in EU politics and having their voices heard on key issues shaping society today.

David Dunne, a local councillor and past pupil of ERSS, reflected on his own political journey, including his time as a student in the school. He highlighted the value of participation in politics at a local level and encouraged students to get involved in their communities.

Students asked thoughtful and wide-ranging questions on topics such as EU security, inequality, the rising cost of living, and the personal realities of political life, including dealing with online abuse and gender inequality.

The visit provided a valuable insight into both European and local political systems and inspired students to consider their own role as active and informed citizens.
