Our TY students had the privilege of exploring Ormond Castle, a remarkable historical treasure right here in Carrick-on-Suir. Originally built before 1315 and later acquired by the powerful Butler family, the castle has seen centuries of transformation. In the 1560s, Thomas Butler, 10th Earl of Ormond, added a stunning Tudor-style manor house — the first of its kind in Ireland — inspired by his time at the court of Queen Elizabeth I.
