Transition Year Students Dig Into Community Gardening at Carrick-on-Suir Library.
This week marked the beginning of a six‑week community gardening programme for our Transition Year students at Carrick-on-Suir Library. The group rolled up their sleeves for their first hands‑on session, exploring the vibrant community garden and learning about the wide variety of plants and trees currently being grown there.
Students were introduced to the basics of garden care, plant identification, and the importance of biodiversity in local green spaces. They also had the chance to get planting themselves—sowing bean seeds and setting strawberry plants that they will continue to care for over the coming weeks.
It was a fantastic start to what promises to be an engaging and rewarding learning experience, helping students connect with nature, develop practical skills, and contribute to a growing community project.
