THE EDMUND RICE SECONDARY SCHOOL, CARRICK ON SUIR came from two goals down to take the Cup tie to extra-time with goals either side of the half ensuring a sensational win over Bray scholars St. Kilian’s Community School in Killeshin FC this afternoon (Tuesday, May 12).
The Bray side started the brighter with some lovely passages of play. They were first to strike with Olivier GRUSZKA converting just before the quarter hour mark with a cheeky toe poke over the head of keeper Sam Carmody.
Carrick responded almost immediately with Dale Redmond only finding the side netting on his first attempt.
Bray’s Ronaldo Ramanausuas hit a fabulous set piece from 25 yards out that forced Sam Carmody to palm over his upright with 18 minutes on the clock.
St. Kilian’s went into the break, one up.
Bray had another excellent start with their tally doubled seven minutes in when GRUSZKA grabbed his second of the afternoon.
However, a goal blitz followed moments later when Carrick finally got into their rhythm, two goals inside two minutes!
Their first came on 38 minutes, with a deflected effort from Joaquin GARCIA, after Jack Friend’s initial shot was blocked by the keeper.
Two minutes later, the sides were level when Bryan LACEY slotted past Doyle to make it 2-2. The keeper saving a series of attempts before Carrick finally equalised.
Both teams had chances to win it in normal time. Bray’s Freddie Boughton was unlucky to hit the post following a well worked corner thirteen minutes from time.
While Carrick’s Zach Norris headed over from a Bryan Lacey corner at the death to leave a pulsating finish.
With the sides level, two apiece, extra-time was required.
ERSS made a massive impact with a minute gone when Jack NORRIS fired them ahead for the first time in the game.
While Bryan LACEY grabbed his second and Carrick’s fourth three minutes into the second period of extra-time!
Despite St. Kilian’s best efforts, they couldn’t get a foot hold in proceedings and Carrick advance to this season’s Cup decider. A fantastic performance from both sides.
ERSS will await the winners of the other semi-final which will take place on Thursday when Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair take on St. Cuan’s College, Castleblakney in Ray MacSharry Park, Sligo at 1pm.
The FAI Schools First Year ‘B’ Boys National Cup Final is set for Thursday, May 21 at 1pm, venue to be confirmed.
