South East Cup Final Champions - Three In A Row šŸ†šŸ†šŸ†

Our u14 team were crowned South East Cup champions once again today after an outstanding performance against ColÔiste Dún Iascaigh, Cahir. With this victory, the lads have now won the competition three years in a row.

Match Report:

From the opening whistle, ERSS settled quickly and looked sharp in attack. Inside the opening minute Darragh Lynch was already causing problems down the left wing, beating defenders with a strong run and setting the tone early.

After 4 minutes, Dale Redmond delivered an excellent cross from the right-hand side which caused panic in the Cahir box. The goalkeeper spilled the ball but nobody could react quickly enough to finish the chance. By the 5th minute, ERSS were completely on top, pinning Cahir back inside their own half with wave after wave of attacks. Cahir’s first real attack came shortly after from a free kick on the right-hand side, but the effort drifted harmlessly wide. The opening stages were stop-start at times with the referee forced to blow for several fouls.

After 11 minutes, Cahir finally worked another attack but Samuel Carmody dealt comfortably with the effort before quickly restarting play. Moments later, brilliant work from Jack Norris in midfield saw him beat two Cahir players before releasing Joaquin Garcia down the right. Joaquin delivered a dangerous cross which the goalkeeper managed to gather under pressure.

ERSS continued to dominate possession and territory. Bryan Lacey then tried his luck from outside the box with a powerful strike that flew just over the crossbar. After 14 minutes, Darragh Lynch cut in from the left and forced another save from the Cahir goalkeeper as the pressure continued to build. A minute later Bryan Lacey won a free kick after a strong challenge. The resulting attack led to a corner, again delivered by Bryan, but this time it went straight into the goalkeeper’s hands.

The breakthrough finally arrived after 17 minutes and it was no more than ERSS deserved. Jack Norris won possession brilliantly in midfield before driving the attack forward. The ball found Darragh Lynch through the middle who played it wide right to Bryan Lacey. Bryan attempted an excellent chipped effort over the goalkeeper which was tipped onto the crossbar, but Darragh Lynch reacted quickest to finish the rebound and put ERSS 1-0 ahead.

Five minutes later ERSS thought they had doubled the lead when Darragh Lynch finished off another excellent move after a superb through ball from Joaquin Garcia, but the offside flag denied him. Just before half-time Joaquin again created danger with a ball into Darragh Lynch who cleverly laid it off to Jack Norris. Jack struck the effort well but it flew over the bar. ERSS did get their second goal after 26 minutes. After several similar attacking moves throughout the half, Bryan Lacey delivered another dangerous ball into the area and Darragh Lynch finished clinically for his second goal of the game and a deserved 2-0 lead at half-time.

Cahir started the second half strongly and within 3 minutes Samuel Carmody was called into action with an excellent save from a long-range strike. A minute later ERSS won a corner and Jack Norris produced a brilliant delivery into the box which almost found both Darragh Lynch and Joaquin Garcia. Cahir continued to push forward and Samuel Carmody again produced an outstanding save after 5 minutes of the second half before another dangerous free kick led to a scramble in the area. Ryan Walsh reacted brilliantly to clear the danger before Samuel made yet another important save moments later.

ERSS weathered the pressure and responded in style after 8 minutes of the second half. Cathal O’Meara launched a clearance forward which flicked off a defender and fell perfectly into the path of Darragh Lynch. With Joaquin Garcia making a brilliant line-breaking run beside him, Darragh took the chance superbly and buried the finish for his hat-trick.

The attacking football continued. After 12 minutes Joaquin Garcia again combined brilliantly with Darragh Lynch, but this time Darragh could not quite sort his feet out and the chance drifted wide. Two minutes later Joaquin delivered a perfect cross from the right to Darragh Lynch who, under pressure, laid the ball off cleverly to Ryan Walsh, but the effort went just over the bar.

Cahir won a corner midway through the half but ERSS quickly turned defence into attack with a long ball towards Zach Norris, but the Cahir centre-back defended well.

The fourth goal arrived after 18 minutes of the second half after more excellent attacking play. Darragh Lynch produced a brilliant pass into Joaquin Garcia who stayed calm despite being surrounded by three defenders and finished expertly. ERSS added a fifth goal after 23 minutes of the half from a free kick as Darragh Lynch struck from distance. The ball squeezed through a crowded box and found its way into the net in unfortunate fashion for Cahir.

Moments later, after a foul on Zach Norris, ERSS added a sixth. Zach stepped up himself and finished the free kick to complete an excellent team performance and seal a superb South East Cup Final victory.

A huge congratulations to Darragh Lynch who was named Player of the Match following a brilliant attacking display throughout the game. Captain Ryan Walsh proudly lifted the South East Cup trophy on behalf of the squad as celebrations began for players, coaches and supporters.

A special word of thanks also to our helpers and assistant coaches Ethan Carroll, Josh Simpson, Zack Tobin and Conor Norris.
